A saltwater crocodile weighing more than a tonne has been declared the largest crocodile in captivity by the Guinness Book of World Records.
몸무게가 1톤이 넘는 바다악어 한 마리가 ‘사육되고 있는 악어 중 몸집이 가장 큰 악어’로 기네스북 세계 기록에 등재됐다.
The animal, nicknamed Lolong, was blamed for the death of a girl and a fisherman in the town of Bunawan, and was captured last September after a three-week-long hunt.
롤롱(Lolong)이라는 별명을 가진 이 악어는 필리핀 민다나오섬 아구산델수르 주(州) 부나완에서 소녀 1명과 어부 1명을 잡아먹었으며 지난해 9월 3주간의 ‘사냥’ 끝에 붙잡혔다.
Lolong was measured at 6.17m (20 feet), and weighs 1,075 kilograms (2259 lbs), and was said to be in healthy condition. It eats up to 10 kg (22 lbs) of meat a week, a local official said.
롤롱의 몸길이는 6.17m, 몸무게는 1075kg이며 건강한 상태인 것으로 알려졌다. 현지 당국자에 따르면, 롤롱은 1주일에 고기 10kg씩을 먹어치운다.
The town mayor, Edwin Elorde, was pleased with the Guinness record announcement.
부나완 시장 에드윈 엘로르데는 기네스 기록 등재 발표에 기뻐했다.
"We are happier, and we appreciate Lolong more, now that he's become more famous. We treasure him even more," Elorde said.

The giant croc has become a tourist attraction in the sleepy town of Bunawan, where an ecotourism park was built around the reptile's enclosure.
이 거대한 악어는 별볼것 없는 부나완 시(市)의 관광 명물이 되고 있다. 시 당국은 롤롱의 우리 주변으로 생태관광 공원을 세웠다.
"I got curious, because it's so big," local tourist Mangellanie Tiempo said.

An official said hundreds of people visited the park each day last summer, and the town has generated around 2.5 million pesos (60,000 US dollars) from ticket sales.
한 관계자에 따르면, 지난해 여름 매일 수백 명이 공원을 방문한 덕에 시 당국은 입장권 판매로 약 250만 페소(한화 약 6800만 원)를 벌었다.
