What could have been a tragic accident turned into a heroic rescue on Monday (July 16) when a seven-year-old girl from Brooklyn, New York, fell from a third-story window.
미국 뉴욕 브루클린에서 16일(현지 시간) 7세 소녀가 건물 3층 창밖으로 떨어졌다. 비극으로 끝날 것 같던 이 사고는 이웃 주민의 영웅적인 행동으로 행복한 결말을 맞았다.
In a home video shot by witnesses, the young girl can be seen moving about on top of an air-conditioning unit on the third floor of her family's Coney Island apartment, before leaping from the window.
목격자들이 촬영한 영상에는 어린 소녀가 코니아일랜드에 있는 아파트 3층 창문 밖에 설치돼 있는 에어컨 실외기 위에서 놀다가 뛰어내리는 장면이 담겨있다.
Neighbor, Steve St. Bernard, ran to the girl's aid and caught her as she tumbled to the ground.
이웃 주민 스티브 세인트 버나드 씨가 소녀를 구하러 현장에 달려가 지켜보다 바닥에 떨어지는 소녀를 양손으로 받아냈다.
According to NBC, the girl's family reported that she is autistic.
미 NBC방송에 따르면 소녀의 가족은 아이가 자폐증을 앓고 있다고 밝혔다.

세인트 버나드 씨는 재빠른 행동으로 소녀를 구해 영웅으로 일컬어지고 있다.
But the MTA bus driver says his actions were instinctive.
하지만 MTA 버스(뉴욕 시내버스) 기사인 세인트 버나드 씨는 자신의 행동이 본능적이었다고 말한다.
"Please let me catch her. Please let me catch her. That's all I could say: Please let me catch the little baby," he explained.

“제발 아이를 받을 수 있게 해주세요. 제발 아이를 받을 수 있게 해주세요. 이 말밖에 할 수 없었어요. 제발 저 어린아이를 받을 수 있게 해주세요.”
"I just picked her up and carried her and hold her and just carried her around. She didn't roll her eyes, she didn't lose consciousness," he added.

“전 그저 아이를 받아서 안고 움직였어요. 아이는 두려워하는 기색이 없었고 의식을 잃지도 않았어요.”
St. Bernard injured his arm in the rescue. The girl was uninjured.
세인트 버나드 씨는 아이를 구하다 팔을 다쳤다. 소녀는 무사하다.
