Chinese women now view income as the most important criterion for choosing a partner for marriage, according to a recent survey.
최근 조사 결과에 따르면 요즘 중국 여성들은 배우자를 선택하는데 있어 수입을 가장 중요한 조건으로 생각한다.
Jiayuan, the biggest online dating site in China, along with the China Youth Research Center and other institutions, released the "Survey Report of Chinese People's Outlook on Marriage" recently.
중국 최대 온라인 데이트 사이트 지아위안이 중국 청년 연구 센터 등 다른 연구소들과 함께 조사한 ‘결혼에 대한 중국인의 관점 보고서’를 최근 공개했다.
The report's findings state that income has topped Chinese women's criteria in choosing spouses over other considerations.
이 보고서는 중국 여성들이 배우자를 선택하는데 있어 다른 조건들보다도 배우자가 될 사람의 수입을 가장 중요하게 생각한다고 말한다.
At a large-scale blind dating event, hosted by Jiayuan in the ballroom of the Shanghai Everbright International Hotel on May 20, hundreds of singles gathered to express their criteria for choosing their other halves.
지우위안이 주최하고 상하이 에버브라이트 인터내셔널 호텔 연회장에서 20일 열린 대규모 소개팅 행사에 참가한 미혼 남녀 수백 명이 배우자 선택에 있어 각자가 중요하게 생각하는 조건들을 말했다.
"For me, my future husband doesn't have to be rich, but he should have a stable job with prospect of promotions and raises. And he has to be a hard working man. When we get married, he should have his own home," said a female participant of the event, who is a dance teacher.
“내 미래의 남편은 부자일 필요는 없어요. 하지만 승진과 연봉 인상의 기회가 있는 안정적인 직업을 가지고 있어야 해요. 열심히 일하는 사람이어야 하고요. 결혼하면 분가해서 살 집이 있어야만 해요”라고 댄스 강사인 한 여성 참가자가 말했다.
A cosmetics saleswoman expressed her criteria more specifically. "I think he should make a monthly salary of at least 10,000 yuan (1570 U.S. dollars), considering the high expenses in Shanghai."
화장품 판매원인 한 여성은 좀 더 구체적으로 자신이 생각하는 결혼의 조건을 말했다. “상하이의 비싼 생활비를 고려할 때 결혼할 남자의 월급이 최소 1만 위안(한화 약 178만 원)은 돼야 해요.”
(지난해 중국 칭화대학 연구진의 발표에 따르면 2011년 중국 대졸자의 입사 첫해 평균 월급은 2766위안(한화 약 49만 원)이다. )
More than 34 percent of women who participated in the survey highlighted the financial situation of their potential spouses, reflecting the popularity of a new term floating around the Chinese media lately, "Gao Fushuai". Mimicking the structure of a Chinese name, the three Chinese characters in this title refer to men who are tall, rich and handsome.
최근 중국 언론에 자주 등장하는 단어인 ‘가오 푸슈아이’의 인기를 반영하듯 조사에 참여한 전체 여성들 가운데 34% 이상이 잠재 배우자의 경제적인 상황을 강조했다. 중국어 이름의 구조를 모방하고 있는 이 단어에 들어가는 한자 3개는 키 크고, 돈 많고, 잘생긴 남성을 가리킨다.
Even on messages posted on bulletin boards at the event, women expressed their preferences for a well-paid man.
행사 게시판에 적혀 있는 메시지들만 봐도 여성들이 돈 잘 버는 남성을 선호함을 알 수 있다.
However, among the female survey participants interviewed by CCTV reporters, many denied their search for a Gao Fushuai. Instead, these women rank stability above wealth.
하지만 CCTV 기자들이 인터뷰한 여성 참가자들 중 상당수는 가오 푸슈아이를 찾지 않는다고 말했다. 이 여성들은 재산보다는 안정을 중시했다.
"Material requirements are often a prerequisite for starting relationships. After that, however, couples have to get along and find things they have in common," said Gong Haiyan, a marriage and relationship expert at Jiayuan.
“물질적인 조건들은 종종 남녀가 관계를 시작하는데 있어 전제 조건이기도 합니다. 하지만 두 사람이 만날 때는 서로 잘 지낼 수 있어야 하고 공통점이 있어야만 합니다”라고 지우위안의 결혼·관계 전문가 공 하이옌 씨가 말했다.
"Women pay more attention to material factors, but in general, personality, common interests and character still make up the most important factors of young marriages," said Liu Junyan, secretary-general of the China Youth Research Center.
“여성들은 물질적인 요소들에 더 주목합니다. 하지만 일반적으로 젊은 사람들이 결혼하는데 있어 인격, 공통 관심사, 성격이 여전히 가장 중요한 요소들입니다”라고 류 준옌 중국 청년 연구 센터 사무국장이 말했다.
